Can Framed Prints Be Used as Signs?

While framed prints and signs can both be hung on a wall and may have similar aesthetic qualities, they serve different purposes. Framed prints are generally considered decorative or artistic pieces, while signs are intended to convey information or instructions. However, framed or mounted prints may prove to be a good fit for advertising or messaging applications, working hand in hand with other signs that form a campaign.

Why choose this sign type and under what circumstances?

Obviously, framed prints serve as art or decor. While framed or mounted prints are not typically used as signs, there may be some situations where they could be repurposed to convey information or instructions. For example, if a framed print includes a message or graphic that is relevant to a specific context, it could be used as a sign in that context.

Framed or mounted prints may also serve as part of an overall brand or advertising campaign that extends a message in greater detail at various locations in a building.  For example, large venues that host events may distribute upcoming event advertising all throughout their property using framed or mounted prints because they provide more detailed event information viewed up close while still respecting the decor of the venue.

Different Types of Framed or Mounted Prints

There are many different types of framed prints, ranging from classic art reproductions to modern photography and graphic design. Here are a few examples:

  • Fine art prints: These are high-quality reproductions of classic paintings or drawings. They are often printed on archival paper or canvas and framed in ornate frames to create a timeless, elegant look.
  • Photographs: Photographs can be printed on paper or canvas and framed in a variety of styles, from simple black frames to more ornate, decorative frames. They can feature anything from landscapes to portraits to abstract compositions.
  • Posters: Posters can be framed to create a more polished, finished look. Posters can feature everything from classic movie posters to vintage travel posters to modern graphic designs.
  • Maps: Maps can be printed on paper or canvas and framed to create a decorative and informative piece of wall art. They can feature anything from antique maps to modern, stylized maps of cities or countries.
  • Text-based prints: Prints featuring inspiring quotes, humorous sayings, or other text-based designs are popular for adding personality to a space. These prints can be framed in a variety of styles, from modern and minimalist to more ornate and decorative.

These are just a few examples of the many different types of framed prints that are available. The possibilities are virtually endless, and you can choose a style that fits your personal taste and the decor of your space.
